Registration open for the next session of Yoga at Creative Rehab
Written By Shannon SwansonIt’s hard to believe the last class of the current session of Yoga is tonight! Our next session will be 10 weeks long beginning June 6th. We currently have a few openings in each of our Gurnee and Libertyville classes.
Wednesdays 5:45pm – Gurnee (222 S. Greenleaf Ste. 101)
Wednesdays 7:15pm – Libertyville (1781 Northwind Blvd)
10 week session – 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, no class 7/4, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8, 8/15

If you have never taken yoga before, here are some of the side effects:
Yoga can increase your flexibility – when safely done, stretching your muscles may help to release lactic acid that builds up with muscle use, which may cause stiffness, tension, pain and fatigue. Yoga also increases the range of motion in joints.
Yoga can help improve muscle tone and strength – Many of the moves in yoga focuses on less movement and more precise alignment in poses, which can provide strength and endurance benefits.
Downward dog, upward dog, and the plank pose, build upper-body strength. This becomes crucial as people age. The standing poses, especially if you hold them for several long breaths, build strength in your hamstrings, quadriceps, and abdominal muscles. Poses that strengthen the lower back include upward dog and the chair pose. When practiced correctly, nearly all poses build core strength in the deep abdominal muscles.
Yoga can help your posture - With increased flexibility and strength comes better posture. Most standing and sitting poses develop core strength. With a stronger core, you’re more likely to sit and stand “tall.” Another benefit of yoga is the increased body awareness. This heightened awareness tells you more quickly when you’re slouching or slumping so you can adjust your posture.
Yoga benefits your breathing – Because of the deep, mindful breathing that yoga involves, lung capacity often improves.
Most forms of yoga emphasize deepening and lengthening your breath. This stimulates the relaxation response — the opposite of the fight-or-flight adrenaline boost of the stress response.

Who Wants to be a MissFIT Dirty Girl?

This week I want to talk about some classes that we’ve put together for you! We hope one of these classes sparks your interest to get outside this Spring!
Get Ready for the Dirty Girl Run
Ever heard of the Dirty Girl Run? Dirty Girl is the premiere all female mud run offering a non-intimidating environment for women of all ages and abilities to let their hair down and enjoy some mud, sweat, and cheers. The Dirty Girl race is a 5k course consisting of 11 insanely fun obstacles designed by an elite Ex-Army Ranger.
This year the event will be June 30th and July 1st at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Not sure you’re ready for the course?! Join Certified Personal Trainer MissFIT Amy on Saturdays at 9am at the Rollins Savanna Grayslake (Drury lane entrance) for her fun, challenging 6-week workout. She will help you wipe away those fears and get you excited for the challenge!

Cost to participate: $90

Fresh Air Fitness Class at Old School Forest Preserve
Don’t have time to get a group of gals together or scout out a location… we’ve already done the legwork on this one (until you take the class – and then you’ll see what legwork really is!)
Join Certified Personal Trainer Debi on Mondays from 5:45-6:45pm at the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville.
This 6-week class will give you a heart pumping, calorie burning workout to get you ready for the Summer!
Class Schedule: Mondays 5:45-6:45pm
5/7, 5/14, 5/21, no class 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18
Cost to participate: $90
Minimum 5 participants to get the class started.
MissFIT Fresh Air Fitness Challenge

What better way to invigorate your body than with an outdoor fitness program.
Try something different this Spring and Summer with MissFIT in nature and one of our nationally certified personal trainers!
We have a variety of Fresh Air Fitness Classes to choose from:
- Backyard Boot Camp: A no-nonsense workout that will keep your blood pumping, feet stomping and calories burning.
- Active Outdoor Yoga: Flow through sun salutations and other yoga postures as you lengthen, strengthen, and tone your body.
- Circuit Training Trail Walks/Run: Put a pep in your step as you alternate power walking or jogging with a variety of strength training moves.
- Outside Intervals: Up and down, in and out! This workout offers intensity and challenge as you train your cardiovascular system and test your limits.
The best part is, you get to choose an outdoor location convenient for you and your friends/family/co-workers!
Sessions are once a week and range from 8 to 12 weeks.
The cost ranges from $12 to $18/class – this varies on the number of women – the more the merrier (and less expensive too)! There must be a minimum of 5 participants to get a class started.
